Subject: Late Arrival Letter to Visa Officer & Imm Inspector

Subject: Your F-1 visa and arrival in the U.S.

Dear Gildong,

The purpose of this e-mail message is to inform you that I have written a letter extending your I-20 “reporting date” from 8/19/2014 to 8/21/2014. The letter, which is attached to this e-mail message, is addressed to:

1.

The U.S. visa officer who is or will be considering your F-1 student visa application

2.

The U.S. immigration inspector who will be checking your visa and immigration documents when you arrive in this country

The letter requests that the visa officer issue you an F-1 student visa and that the immigration inspector allow you to enter the U.S. in F-1 student status with the understanding that you must be physically present at The George Washington University (GW) on or before August 29, 2014.

If you have not yet been issued an F-1 student visa, please send the letter to the Non-Immigrant Visa (NIV) Unit in the U.S. embassy or consulate where you applied for the visa. If you have already received your F-1 student visa, you can skip this paragraph but you should carefully read the rest of this message.

Please print two copies of the PDF letter and take them with you when you travel to the U.S. You must have them in your possession, not inside checked luggage. If anyone at your departure airport notes that you will be arriving in the U.S. after your I-20 reporting date, give them one copy of the letter and explain that we have extended your reporting date.

When you later arrive in the U.S. and pass through immigration inspection, give a copy of the letter to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (USCBP) immigration inspector who examines your visa and immigration documents, and explain that we have extended your reporting date.

When you arrive on the GW campus, please see the following individual for guidance and assistance with registering late for classes, and making up missed lectures and assignments:

Name and Title:

Rick Hess

Department/Office:

SB Academic Advising

Campus Address:

2201 G Street, NW, Duques Hall

Telephone Number:

E-Mail Address:

As soon as you have registered for classes, please send an e-mail message to your ISO Advisor and request a “new student check-in” appointment. Bring your passport and all your immigration documents with you to this appointment. Your ISO Advisor will perform a visa and immigration status check, and will notify the federal Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) that you have arrived and are attending classes. Your ISO Advisor is:

Name and Title:

Alyssa Fox

Office:

International Services Office

Campus Address:

Old Main, Suite 205 (1922 F Street, NW)

Telephone Number:

(202) 994-4477

E-Mail Address:

axxxxx@gwu.edu

If at any time you believe you will be unable to arrive on campus by August 29, you should contact both Rick and me. We will discuss your situation with you and quickly decide upon a plan of action. If you arrive after August 29 without first contacting Rick and me, and obtaining our permission to arrive after that date, you may not be able to register for the courses you need to take your first semester and that could have a negative effect upon your F-1 status in this country.

Thank you for your consideration and cooperation. I wish you the best and hope I will soon be able to personally welcome you to GW!

Sincerely yours,

Emma Stone
